Third new data centre planned for Ealing area
The £1 billion project will be built in Park Royal
A third new data centre will be built in the Ealing area, following the announcement of a joint venture between the property company Segro and Pure Data Centres.
In a message to investors, Segro said the two companies would build the 56 megawatt data centre in Park Royal, which they expect to lease to a hyperscaler. Hyperscalers are companies that offer large scale computer resources and cloud storage such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. The company said it expects gross capital investment to be around £1 billion.
The news follows the announcement of two major data centres in Southall. CyrusOne plans to build a centre on the former Honey Monster factory site while Global Technology Realty plans to build on the International Trading Estate.

New details emerge on how CyrusOne will power and cool its Ealing data centre
Second new data centre planned for Ealing
The new data centres will provide the capacity for future growth in digital infrastructure and the expansion of services such as streaming, online business and artificial intelligence.
The A40 corridor is becoming a major hub for data centres but is yet to rival Slough which has an estimated 38 data centres.
Segro has built and powered the shells of data centres, leaving other companies to provide internal equipment but this is the first time it will develop a full data centre. Pure Data Centres is a UK-headquartered company which has 500 megawatt of capacity live or in development in Europe and the Gulf. It is 85 per cent owned by Oaktree Capital Management, a Californian company. The new centre will be built on a site owned by Segro in Premier Park Road.
While CyrusOne and Global Technology Realty have submitted detailed plans to Ealing Council as part of the planning process. Segro and Pure DC have yet to submit any documents accessible to the public to either Ealing Council or Brent Council. Segro did not respond to inquiries about when they intend to submit further project details.
Pure Data Centres, which operate a site in Brent Cross, say it has secured 70 mega volt amperes of power from the local grid for future operations and that the new centre will be cooled by a closed-loop water system which will not affect local water supplies.
